Description

Samarium Cobalt Shallow Pots are compact, high-performance magnetic assemblies built for demanding conditions where space is limited but reliability is critical. These magnets use Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) a rare earth material known for its exceptional temperature resistance and corrosion tolerance making them ideal for harsh environments where other magnets would degrade or demagnetize.

Unlike deep pots, shallow pots provide a lower profile while still delivering a concentrated holding force through a steel casing that directs the magnetic field toward the contact surface. This design balances magnetic strength with compactness, making them especially useful in applications where depth is restricted but precision and durability are essential.

Typical Application

  • Aerospace components - Reliable magnetic holding in aircraft systems exposed to extreme temperatures and vibration.
  • Automotive sensors - Used in engine bays and brake systems where heat and chemical exposure are common.
  • Medical equipment - Ideal for precision holding in diagnostic or surgical tools that require stability and resistance to sterilisation environments.
  • Marine and offshore environments - Performs well in saltwater-exposed assemblies where corrosion resistance is essential.
  • High-temperature manufacturing machinery - Used for holding, clamping, or positioning parts in ovens, furnaces, or thermal processing lines.

Key Features

  • Exceptional temperature resistance - operates effectively up to 300°C
  • Strong magnetic performance in a compact, low-profile design
  • Excellent corrosion resistance - ideal for chemically harsh or marine environments
  • Steel casing focuses the magnetic field and protects the SmCo core
  • Reliable in precision and industrial applications where failure is not an option
  • No coating required - SmCo magnets are naturally oxidation-resistant

Learn More About Samarium Cobalt Shallow Pots

Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) shallow pot magnets offer an ideal balance between high magnetic strength and excellent temperature resistance. As part of the rare earth magnet family, they are particularly suited for challenging environments where heat, corrosion, or demagnetising fields are concerns. Unlike neodymium, SmCo is naturally resistant to oxidation and does not require additional coatings to protect its surface.

These shallow pot designs incorporate a Samarium Cobalt disc housed in a steel shell, which directs the magnetic force to the working face and increases holding strength without increasing the magnet's size. This makes them extremely compact yet powerful solutions for holding, clamping, or mounting tasks.

Because of their stability and performance under high temperatures (typically up to 200°C and beyond in some cases), Samarium Cobalt shallow pots are favoured in aerospace, defence, automotive, and high-precision engineering industries.

Their resistance to demagnetisation also makes them suitable for applications where the magnetic field must remain constant over time or in high-vibration environments.

If your application demands long-term durability, compact size, and strong performance under harsh conditions Samarium Cobalt shallow pot magnets are an exceptional choice.
