Learn more about our energise-to-hold electromagnets
Energise-to-Hold Electromagnets are standard electromagnets, featuring a solenoid (copper wound coil) encased within a high-quality, highly permeable iron housing. This design delivers strong clamping forces with minimal magnetic losses. The energising unit comprises an iron cylinder finished with a durable nickel coating and fitted with a body mount. Multiple keeper plates (armature plates) are available to support the electromagnet's holding capabilities. The back side of the electromagnet includes a central mounting hole and three equidistant tapped holes on a pitch circle diameter (PCD).
Three Connection Options
The Energise-to-Hold Electromagnet offers three electrical connection types based on its size: free leads, a two-pole connector, and Hirschmann connectors.
Voltage and Performance Specifications
Depending on the size, these electromagnets are available in three supply voltages: 12V DC, 24V DC, and 240V AC. They feature an ED rating of 100% and an IP rating of 54 (IP 20 for the two-pole connector version). The maximum pull force ranges from 113N to 3500N (or approximately 11kg to 350kg), although actual performance varies by application. Constructed from high-grade, low-remanence iron, the electromagnet’s outer shell is a durable, bright nickel-plated cylinder, passivated with body mounting, built to withstand demanding holding and clamping conditions.
Operation and Performance
The magnet activates with electrical current and deactivates when power is removed. Pull force conversions are approximately: 1kg = 10N = 2.2lb.
Common Applications
Energise-to-Hold Electromagnets are well-suited for applications such as access control door locks, fire door holding, medical devices, automated packaging feeder systems, pick-and-place machinery, and power generation equipment.
