Learn more about our self-adhesive magnetic tape

Our flexible magnetic tape is a thin, extruded material made from strontium ferrite magnetic powder embedded in a thermoplastic binder. This flexible magnetic rubber tape, as it’s also known, adheres to magnetically receptive surfaces like mild steel, ferromagnetic stainless steel, and other materials with high magnetic permeability (such as iron). Typically, it is magnetised on only one side (with multiple poles across its width), allowing it to attract to itself; however, only paired tapes provide perfect alignment.

The recommended maximum operating temperature for these flexible magnetic rubber tapes is +80°C. Beyond this temperature, the thermoplastic (rubber) binder begins to soften, leading to demagnetisation as the magnetic domains realign and cancel each other out.

Where Is Magnetic Tape Used?

Our flexible magnetic tape is ideal for securing ferrous materials, like steel signs, to walls or other surfaces. It can be applied to both the surface and the item needing attachment, forming a strong magnetic bond.

Common uses for magnetic tape include:

  • Attaching fly screens to doors
  • Mounting shop signage
  • Securing car registration plates
  • Installing secondary glazing
  • Storing magnetic items such as screws or nails

How To Use Magnetic Tape

Our self-adhesive magnetic steel tape can be affixed to a surface to create a base for attaching and easily removing magnetic materials like flexible magnetic rubber tape. Magnetic tape is offered in various thicknesses and widths to suit different applications.

The magnetic strips can be easily cut to any length with scissors. For greater holding power, increase the surface area of the tape applied. When using tape-on-tape for enhanced performance, first secure one strip in the desired location, then align the second strip magnetically over it. Remove the adhesive liner on the second strip and press it in place; this method ensures optimal magnetic strength.

This magnetic strip works best in direct contact with ferrous surfaces, such as mild steel sheets, or when in direct contact with another magnetic strip. Air gaps will reduce the pull force. When used magnet-on-magnet, performance can be up to twice as strong as magnet-on-steel.
